Ray Qigong

Ray RobertsonQigong Instructor & Healing Arts Practitioner

Ray Robertson is a dedicated healing arts practitioner specializing in Qigong, an ancient Chinese practice of gentle movement and meditation. With over a decade of experience in harnessing this “moving meditation,” Ray has helped countless individuals find balance and tranquility. He has trained under respected Qigong masters and now leads multiple classes each week in southern Virginia (including at the South Boston YMCA). Ray originally turned to Qigong to ease his own lifelong anxiety, so he understands its transformative power on a personal level. His journey from student to teacher is rooted in gratitude, and he is eager to share the art of cultivating life energy (“qi”) with others.

At Figure, Fruit & Field, Ray serves as the retreat’s Qigong instructor, bringing mindfulness and wellness into the creative mix. He invites attendees to start the day with a gentle Qigong session amid the fresh air and rolling fields. Through slow, flowing movements and guided breathing, Ray helps artists awaken their bodies, clear away stress, and center themselves for a day of art-making. His sessions are very beginner-friendly – you don’t need any experience to join in. Ray’s warm encouragement and patient guidance make it easy for everyone to participate at their own pace. By the end of the hour, you’ll feel grounded and energized, carrying a calm focus into your workshops and collaborations.

Ray’s teaching style is often described as compassionate and calming. He fosters an atmosphere where each person feels comfortable exploring the practice, whether you’re a seasoned yogi or trying Qigong for the first time. “Let us all seek to go gently together into those still waters,” Ray likes to say, echoing the peaceful philosophy he brings from his Still Waters Qigong training. This gentle approach not only rejuvenates the body and mind, but also reinforces the retreat’s spirit of community – practicing side by side creates a special bond among participants. Through Ray’s guidance, wellness and creativity flow together at the retreat, ensuring that our artists are not only inspired but also cared for in both body and soul.
